By this, USB 2.0 rivaled the FireWire which has become a favorite when one needs a higher speed in transferring data to and from higher speed gadgets and devices like the CD-RW drives, network adapters and digital video cameras. USB 2.0 drivers initially would not work for Linux-based devices. But this in effect will trigger the makers and programmers of Linux gadgets and devices to write softwares and drivers that will work with the latest version of Universal Serial Bus. The production of the USB 2.0 drivers made way for the transition both for the manufacturers and the customers. The latest version includes full backward and forward compatibility with USB 1.1 devices and works satisfactorily with connectors and cables designed originally for the previous USB version.
